Penzini and Thomsen Earn Scholar All-America Honors from NSCAA

Kansas City, Mo. -- A pair of Panthers earned inclusion on the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America's Division II Scholar All-America team, as Alejandro Penzini and Emil Thomsen were recognized for their academic and athletic successes this fall.

Penzini started in all 22 games for Adelphi this season, anchoring an Adelphi defense that ranked fourth in the nation in goals against average and second in shutout percentage. He also scored five goals on 10 shots on the year, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Southern New Hampshire. A unanimous First Team All-Conference selection in the Northeast-10, Penzini helped Adelphi post a league-leading 10 shutouts during the regular season, and earned First Team honors for the second straight season from the conference. He was also an NSCAA First Team All-American selection, as well as a D2CCA All-American. In the classroom, the Caracas, Venezuela native posted a 3.54 GPA while earning his MBA.

Thomsen posted a 3.68 GPA as a political science major and also was a lynch pin of the Adelphi defense. An NE10 First Team pick as well, Thomsen also garnered a host of postseason awards, as a First Team All-Region performer by the NSCAA and a D2CCA Third Team All-American.
