Keene, NH - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Keene, New Hampshire for a meeting with Northeast-10 opponent Franklin Pierce (11-14, 7-6 NE-10) and found themselves in a 1-0 hole, but dug out of it, knotting the game at one all, before running out of gas, falling, 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 15-25, 16-25) on Friday, October 11.
Melissa Rigo was the only member of the Brown and Gold to post a double figure kill total with 17, while
Megan Manierski had 16 set assists and
Katie Barry chipped in 11. Adephi's (17-11, 8-5 NE-10) defensive effort was led by
Sierra Crook, who had 22 digs and teammates
Mandy Stanislovaitis and Rigo added 13 and 12 respectively.
The first set was tied at 14 all, when an eight point Raven broke it open and gave Franklin Pierce a 22-14 lead on the way to 25-20 run. The Panthers attempted to claw back into the game with a run of their own, but Adelphi's six point spurt was not enough, getting the Brown and Gold within two points, 22-20, but no closer.
The second frame was closer, with Adelphi leading by just one point late in the action, 19-18. However, the Panthers closed on a 6-1 run, knotting the match at one all with a 25-19 victory. The host Ravens took control of the third set with a quick four point burst that turned a, 6-5 edge into a 10-5 bulge that Adelphi could not recover from, falling 25-15.
The Brown and Gold jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the fourth set, but the advantage was short lived. Franklin Pierce stormed back taking an 8-7 lead, before a service error made it an 8-8 game. Unfortunately for Adelphi, Franklin Pierce scored 12 of the next 16 points to take control of the game, 20-12 on the way to a 25-16 game four win and a 3-1 match victory.
