Late Heroics Lead Women's Soccer In NE-10 Quarterfinals Past SNHU 2-1 In Double Overtime

Garden City, N.Y. - A goal in the final minute of regulation from Morgan Santoro forced overtime while Victoria Antonino registered the game-winner in double overtime to lead the top-seeded Adelphi University women's soccer team passed eighth seeded Southern New Hampshire 2-1 earlier this afternoon during a Northeast-10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal match.

Trailing 1-0 in the 90th minute of play, Santoro was able to line up a free kick outside the 18-yard box for the Brown and Gold (15-2-1). On the attempt, the Islip native put forth a shot that placed perfectly in the top left corner to even the score at 1-1 and force overtime. With that goal, Santoro tied Kimberly Campbell (2000) for the program single-seaon goal record at 23.

Outshooting the Penmen (10-8-1) 5-0 in the overtime sessions, the fifth shot proved to be the clinching strike off the foot of Antonino. The senior midfielder collected a a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box, took a step to her right, and trickled a shot to the bottom left of the goal to give the Panthers the victory.

Following a scoreless first half that Adelphi controlled a 7-4 shot advantage as well as a 2-0 corner kick margin, Southern New Hampshire struck for the first tally of the game in the 51st minute. A bouncing ball in front of the Adelphi net found the foot of Shae Roys, who followed with a shot to the bottom left corner of the net to give the visitors the early lead. However, the Santoro equalizer and Antonino game-winner helped the Panthers advance to the Friday's NE-10 Championship Semifinal.

Autumn Scanlon kept the Penmen ahead for a majority of the contest with nine saves, including a pair of the overtime sessions. Meanwhile, Anne Marie Ulliac earned her 14th victory of the season behind two saves in the first period. Adelphi ended the afternoon with a 23-7 shot margin while also creating 11 corner kicks.

The Brown and Gold advance to the semifinal round on Friday, hosting the fourth seed Skyhawks of Stonehill for a 4:00 pm contest. Stonehill advanced to the next round after defeating Saint Rose 2-0 this afternoon.
