Garden City, N.Y. - As one of the seven honored prior to today's game,
Morgan Santoro enjoyed her senior day with two goals in a 2-0 win for the 12th ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team against Le Moyne earlier today on Motamed Field during Northeast-10 Conference action.
With the two goals today to lead the Panthers (9-1-1/6-1-1 NE-10), Santoro extended her goal scoring streak to 10 games and has also registered at least two points in every game this season. Additionally, the Islip native scored her 14th and 15th goals of the season to push her lead among the NE-10 league leaders to six goals and 16 points.
Prior to the end of the first half, the Brown and Gold jumped ahead of the Dolphins (5-5-1/3-4-1 NE-10) 1-0 on Santoro's first goal of the afternoon.
Victoria Antonino crossed a ball in from the right side that her fellow classmate was able to knock in on an open net with 26 seconds left in the period.
Adelphi ended the first half with a 10-2 shot margin while also creating six corner kicks compared to zero for the visitors. Anastasija Cumika kept Le Moyne within striking distance with five saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Looking for an insurance goal, Santoro found the back of the net again in the 59th minute. The midfielder fired a shot from 25 yards out that went past the goaline high and into the net to give Adelphi a 2-0 lead. In the 73rd minute, Rachel Terry forced
Anne Marie Ulliac to make her first save of the contest and help notch her second shutout of the year.
The Panthers ended the contest leading in shots 22-5 as well as a 14-0 corner kick margin. Cumika finished with 11 saves on the afternoon while each team was called for offsides once.
Looking ahead, the Brown and Gold travel up the thruway to Albany to face Saint Rose on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm contest.
