Albany, N.Y. - A lone second half tally from junior
Jeanine Nunez was enough for the 12th ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team to upend Saint Rose 1-0 on the road this evening during Northeast-10 Conference play.
Following nearly 65 minutes of scoreless action, Nunez pushed the Brown and Gold (10-1-1/7-1-1 NE-10) ahead of the host Golden Knights (7-5/4-5 NE-10) with a left footed strike. The Staten Island native was set up from on the play from
Taylor Sipos as the fellow forward crossed in a ball from the right flank to help secure the victory.
Both goalies were forced to make early saves in the opening minutes of action as
Laura Gomez forced Madison Taylor to make a save in the fourth minute while not long after on the other side of the field,
Anne Marie Ulliac needed to make two saves on a pair of shots from Fiona Donohue. The two attempts were made just four seconds apart.
Saint Rose nearly claimed the first advantage of the game as a strike from Nine Predanic just bounced off the right post in the 25th minute. Nunez almost found the back of the net 10 minutes later for the Panthers, however, Taylor was forced off the goal line to make a stop.
Adelphi controlled an 8-5 shot advantage in addition to a 5-1 corner kick margin during the opening 45 minutes. The two early stops were the only recorded saves for Ulliac in the first half while Taylor made five saves throughout the period.
Ulliac was again tested early in the second half while being forced to make a save on an attempt from Sophia Constantine following a blocked shot off the foot of Deanna Trongone during the 58th minute.
Following the Nunez goal in the 65th minute, Saint Rose countered the attack in the 74th minute looking for the equalizer. However, a shot from Caitlyn Dabagian went just over the crossbar while Elisa Galbiati forced the Brown and Gold defense to make a stop for Ulliac on the goal line.
The defense contiued to hold tight, creating the third shut out on the season. Adelphi ended the evening with a 14-9 shot differential as well as a 7-2 corner kick lead. Ulliac finished the match with four saves while Taylor stopped seven attempts.
Adelphi returns to the road on Saturday with a trip to Rindge, N.H. to face Franklin Pierce for a 4:00 pm contest.

Morgan Santoro's point streak comes to an end at 11 games. The senior remains the league leader in points with 36.
- With the victory, the program reaches 10 wins for the fifth straight season.
