#7 Saint Anselm Snaps #10 Field Hockey's Streak, 2-1

Manchester, N.H. -- The Adelphi University field hockey team had its four-game winning streak snapped by the Saint Anselm College Hawks, 2-1, on the road on Saturday afternoon in a contest between two of the NFCA's Top 10.

The Panthers (7-4, 4-2 NE-10), who checked in at No. 10 in this week's edition of the NFCA Division II national poll, saw their streak come to an end at the hands of the No. 7-ranked Hawks (10-2, 5-1 NE-10), who won their second straight.

The first 35 minutes went by scoreless as the host Hawks outshot the Panthers by a 7-4 margin, but Hawks' keeper Katherine Sears made three stops compared to Amanda Gargiulo's one to keep the game in a 0-0 tie.

Off a penalty corner in the 44th minute, Lena Pollich found Emily Power on a pass to the middle, who fired a backhand shot past Sears for the 1-0 Adelphi lead. However, just six minutes later, the Hawks took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity to tie the game, as Hannah Friend took a Mia Vaccione pass ahead for a one-on-one opportunity against Amanda Gargiulo for the game-tying goal.

At the 60-minute mark, the Hawks took advantage of four total penalty corners, where they held a 13-5 edge in the game, in the next five minutes to take their first lead of the game. Jackie Guillemette scored her second goal of the season off apass from Allia Connolly for the 2-1 lead, forcing Adelphi to push for the tie attempt with just six minutes left in regulation. However, four shots off Adelphi sticks were all saved by Sears, who ended with a total of eight saves in the game.

The Panthers return to action when they host the Setters of Pace University in NE-10 action at 7 pm.
