Albany, N.Y. – The ninth ranked Adelphi University men's soccer team used a goal in each half from
Toni Soler to upend Saint Rose 2-0 earlier tonight in Upstate New York. In the process, the Brown and Gold concluded the regular season with an unbeaten Northeast-10 Conference record of 12-0-1 while going into the postseason with an overall mark of 14-1-1.
The first strike from Soler was recorded less than 17 minutes into the contest for the Panthers. The midfielder collected a backwards pass from
Caelan Hueber and finished in the lower right of the net with a one touch strike from 15 yards out.
Soler added his second tally of the night to give Adelphi insurance during the 59th minute in the second period. Coming unassisted, the junior volleyed a ball in from the left flank of the field to finish in the top right of the goal and net his third goal of the season and second of the evening.
The Brown and Gold controlled much of the play on the evening, taking 12 shots while yielding just four to the goalkeeping duo of
Spenser Powell and
Joseph Blasetti. Blasetti was forced to make the lone save of the evening for the Panthers during the second half.
Adelphi also earned an advantage in corner kicks, 5-3, while Soler and Hueber led the team with three shots each. Christian Esposito made three saves for the Golden Knights (5-9-2/3-8-2 NE-10) in the effort.
The Panthers await the announcement of the NE-10 Championship field and for their opponent in Tuesday's quarterfinal round. Game time is still to be determined.
