Garden City, N.Y. - A goal in the first minute of play helped lift the top seeded Adelphi University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against eighth seeded Southern Connecticut State in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal earlier this evening.

With just 47 seconds gone by to start tonight's opening round contest, the Brown and Gold (15-1-1) were able to jump ahead and hold onto the lead for the remaining 89 minutes. The opening shot was one of seven for the Panthers in first half, helping to control a 7-4 margin at the break. Each team also manufactored a corner kick while Noah Varonier made two saves for the Owls (7-8-2).

Adelphi continued to control the momentum in the second half, outshooting Southern Connecticut 9-1 to finish the match with a 16-5 advantage. The Panthers nearly added an insurance goal in the 74th minute, however, Varonier turned away Federico De Oliveira's attempt near the top left corner of the goal.

In addition to the shot advantage, the Brown and Gold also produced a 4-2 corner kick margin. Thristino led the effort with five shots to go along with his assits while Lucas Greenway Tambini led the Owls with three attempts.
