Garden City, N.Y. - The opening goal of the game put senior
Morgan Santoro atop the single-season program points mark in Adelphi University women's soccer history as the Panthers (13-1-1/10-1-1 NE-10) upended visiting American International 3-1 this evening in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Santoro notched her 21st goal of the season to give herself 48 points on the season, tying the single-season mark set by Shannon Sepe in 1992, Kimberly Campbell in 2000, Bernadette Kennedy in 1997, and Josephine Coiro in 2004. The Islip native notched the goal during a scramble in the box, finishing a touch pass from
Victoria Antonino during the 12th minute.
Following a 1-0 halftime advantage,
Erica Bleimeyer pushed the advantage to 2-0 with a header off a
Jeanine Nunez deflected cros in the 64 minute. Later in the 87th minute, Antonino notched her seventh goal of the season to collect three points on the evening. The senior finished under Mikayla Demanche off a
Laura Gomez pass.
The Yellow Jackets (10-6/9-4 NE-10) continued to attack in the final stages, ultimately resulting in a goal during the 89th minute to cut the Adelphi lead to 3-1. Alanna Garcia finished a deflected pass from Linnea Herbertsson following a Mike Iida free kick from the right side.
Despite the two-goal margin, the Brown and Gold only generated a one-shot margin of 13-12 that included a 6-5 AIC first half advantage. The Yellow Jackets were also afforded a 3-2 corner kick lead.
Anne Marie Ulliac stopped four shots in net for the Panthers while Demanche made a save in each period.
The Panthers conclude the home portion of the 2016 regular season schedule on Wednesday, hosting Assumption for a 7:00 pm match on Motamed Field.

- Santoro trails Campbell for the single-season goal record of 23 while she tied Sepe for second on the list.
- With the victory, the Panthers take a four-point lead in the NE-10 Standings over AIC.
