Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University volleyball team kicked off a three-match home stand this evening with a fourth straight victory behind a 3-0 sweep against Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Amanda Borges notch a team-high 10 kills for the Brown and Gold (13-8/4-3 NE-10) while
Megan Manierski passed out 23 assists and swung for six kills of her own while making six digs.
Sierra Crook led the team with 16 digs, right in front of 15 from
Melissa Rigo who also added seven kills.
The Falcons (8-13/5-2 NE-10) were led by a match-high 12 kills from Lauren Van Buren in addition to 11 digs. Celia Cristofoli matched the 11 digs effort.
The Panthers scored the final five points of the opening set to claim a 25-17 victory. The Brown and Gold were benefitted by four miscues from the Falcons in the final points while Manierski also added a service ace to claim a 23-17 advantage. Manierski passed out 11 assists in the set while a trio of player accumulated three kills.
After trailing 19-16 in the later stages of the second set, the Brown and Gold rallied with a 9-2 run capped off by a
Katie Barry kill to give Adelphi a 2-0 lead. Prior to the Barry kill, Bentley committed three straight attack errors following a
Mandy Stanislovaitis kill to make up a large portion of the run. Through the second set, the Panthers had three players with five kills each in addition to six team blocks.
With a 22-22 tie in the third set, Adelphi recorded three straight points as Rigo started the rally with a kill followed by two straight from Borges with passes from
Katie Barry. Bentley responded to a 15-11 Adelphi lead early on, however, the Panthers never relinquished the lead.
The Panthers are quickly back on the court in the Center for Recreation and Sport with a 1:00 pm match on Saturday against Stonehill, the second of a three straight home matches.
Notes:
- In addition to four straight wins, Adelphi has won seven of its last eight matches and 10 of the last 12.
- The Panthers continue to climb the NE-10 standings, sliding into a tie for fifth with American International.
