Santoro's Hat Trick Leads #7 Women's Soccer To 4-1 Victory Against Pace

Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Morgan Santoro continues her climb up the Adelphi University soccer team program bests with three goals this evening to help lead a 4-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory against visiting Pace.

With three tallies on the evening, the midfielder moves to within three goals of tying the program single-season record as well as being only two points shy of the single-season points record. Santoro pushed her season marks to 20 goals and 46 points following tonight's performance.

The Islip native started early to get the Panthers (12-1-1/9-1-1 NE-10) ahead against the Setters (8-5-2/5-5-2 NE-10) during the fifth minute. Taylor Sipos played a ball through the middle of the defense that Santoro was able to place in the bottom left of the net from 10 yards out. Sipos later found herself on the scoring end of the next goal as Jeanine Nunez dribbled along the right end line, touching a pass to the middle that Sipos quickly put in.

With a 2-0 halftime lead, the Brown and Gold also produced a 10-2 shot advantage as well as a 2-0 corner kick margin. Hayley Pascoal kept Pace within striking distance by making four saves in the first 45 minutes.

Nunez once again looked to be the distributor during the 61st minute by placing a ball in the middle of the box for Santoro to finish and put Adelphi ahead 3-0. Following a misplaced ball back to Pascoal during the 83rd minute, the Panthers were awarded a indirect kick inside the box that Santoro targeted into the back of the right net for her third strike of the game. The Setters ended the shutout bid three minutes later as Noreen Carlin headed in a corner kick from Drew Ribandeneyra.

The Setters managed to create seven corner kicks in the second half to aid the final tally, ending the night with a 7-5 corner kick margin. However, the Panthers produced a 22-8 shot advantage, forcing Pascoal to make seven saves. Anne Marie Ulliac was forced to make one save to pick up her 12th victory in net.

Adelphi returns to Motamed Field on Saturday for the second of three straight home games with a 6:00 pm start scheduled against American International.

Notes:
- Shannon Sepe owns the school's single-season points record with 48 set in 1992 while Kimberly Campbell produced 23 goals in the 2000 to hold the single-season mark.
- The Panthers continue to hold a one point lead over American International for first place in the NE-10 standings as the Yellow Jackets upended Franklin Pierce 2-1 this evening.
