Reading, Pa. -- The Adelphi University bowling team kicked off the 2016-17 season over the weekend, competing at the Kutztown University Baker and Team Invitationals.

On the opening day in Baker play, the Panthers split four matches, scoring wins against Medaille College and St. Francis Brooklyn, before falling to LIU Brooklyn and Virginia State. The team's total pinfall placed them behind Delaware State and LIU Brooklyn, with Saint Francis (Pa.) and Franklin Pierce rounding out the top five.
On Sunday in traditional play, the Brown and Gold opened with an 885-871 win over Mount Aloysuis Collegge, anchored by a 234 game from Zaugg. Up next, the Panthers fell in a close decision to Youngstown State, 912-883, despite two 203 games from Gotterbarn and LaRocca. However, the Panthers rebounded quickly with a 965-919 win over Caldwell, as all five Panthers -- Gotterbarn, Zaugg, LaRocca,
McKenna Collier and
Lena Sorrentino rolled over 190 in a balanced effort. In the fourth match, Adelphi had its most one-sided win of the afternoon, defeating Duquense by a 950-827 margin, thanks in part to another big game from Zaugg at 236.
