Four Score in Double Figures to Lead Men's Basketball Past Saint Michael's, 84-59

Garden City, N.Y. -- Behind four players in double figures, the Adelphi University men's basketball team picked up its fifth straight victory with an 84-59 win over the visiting Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon inside the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Manny Suarez led Adelphi (14-2, 6-2 NE-10) in the effort, dropping a game-high 20 points, while Anthony Libroia totaled 13 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor and kept the offense moving with eight assists. Michael Coffey and Jack Laffey each totaled 11 points, with Laffey coming off the bench to net that total. Matt Bonds recorded a double-double behind 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Purple Knights (2-12, 0-9 NE-10).

The Panthers held the lead in the contest for the duration, as a Conor McGuinness trey off a pass from Libroia just 27 seconds into the game to get the Panthers rolling. Adelphi opened the game on an 11-4 run in under three minutes, but were consistently pegged back by a Saint Michael's squad until Suarez and Tavon Ginyard sank three-points on consecutive trips down the floor to open up a 10-point margin at 28-18 with 11:49 remaining in the first half. Each of Adelphi's remaining seven field goals in the half were three-pointers, as the Panthers sank 12 from behind the arc as a team in the opening 20 minutes, and the Panthers led by 17 at the break, 49-32.

The Panthers scored eight of the first 10 points of the second half and continued to connect on each trip down the floor, opening up a 30-point advantage as Dom Kelman-Poto converted on a layup and one to bring the score to 81-51 with 4:49 remaining, before taking a game-high 33-point lead behind a Coffey trey on the next possession. The lead held for the duration of the contest, as the Purple Knights' defense kept the Panthers off the board for the final four minutes in the 84-59 victory.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 13 for an NE-10 contest on the road at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. Tipoff will follow the women's game at 7:30 pm.
