Waltham, Mass. - An early first half advantage continued to grow as Bentley upended the Adelphi University men's basketball team 81-61 earlier this evening at the Dana Center in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Tavon Ginyard came off the bench to lead the Panthers (14-3, 7-3 NE-10) with 19 points that included four three-pointers and 7-for-8 from the free throw line to go along with three steals.
Anthony Libroia and
Michael Coffey combined for 23 points while equally splitting 10 rebounds, while
Manny Suarez notched five blocks on the defensive end. Keegan Hyland recorded a team-high 22 points, just ahead of 21 points from Tyler McFarland. The Falcons (11-3, 8-1 NE-10) benefitted from a 53-30 advantage on the glass that included nine from Hyland.
A 12-2 run after a 10-10 tie helped the host Falcons create their first double-digit lead of the game 15 minutes into the first half. A layup from Ryan Richmond pushed the lead to a half-high 15 points before Libroia cut the deficit to 13 points going into the locker room down 38-25.
Hyland was the main offensive threat for either team in the first half, scoring 18 points that included a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. A 28-16 margin in rebounds also helped Bentley score nine second-chance points.
The Falcons continued to expand their lead in the second half, building a 21-point cushion off a layup from Alex Furness less than five minutes into the frame; however, an 18-2 run later on grew the lead to a game-high 31 points at 76-45. The Panthers continued to compete, however, and ended the game on a 13-2 run, although the early play from Bentley helped secure the 81-61 victory.
Adelphi returns home this Saturday for a 3:30 pm contest against Southern New Hampshire to start the first of back-to-back home contests.
