Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Fights Off Late Run By Franklin Pierce, 62-58

Rindge, N.H. – The Adelphi University men's basketball held off a furious rally from host Franklin Pierce this evening to secure a 62-58 Northeast-10 Conference road victory this evening.

Tavon Ginyard and Anthony Libroia shared the game-high of 13 points while Ginyard added four assists and Libroia seven rebounds. Michael Coffey led the game with 11 rebounds to go along with seven points while Ryan DeNicola posted 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Brown and Gold were able to go into the halftime intermission with a 35-21 lead thanks in large part to a 23-4 run after facing a 17-12 deficit 9:06 remaining in the period. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Jack Laffey and Ginyard gave Adelphi the lead at 18-17 before the Panthers scored the final nine points of the half. Nick Cambio capped off the stretch with a layup to secure the halftime margin with 24 seconds left.

A balanced offense witnessed eight individuals get into the scoring column for the Brown and Gold in the opening 20 minutes as DeNicola and Manny Suarez each scored eight points to go along with a combined nine rebounds. Despite only two points in the half, Michael Coffey led the team with seven rebounds. Adelphi held Franklin Pierce to 25.0 percent (9-for-36) from the field.

After the Ravens scored the first seven points of the second half, a 22-4 run from the Panthers built a 23-point lead as Ginyard converted a layup with 12:33 left in regulation. However, Franklin Pierce put on its own run of 14-0 and held the Brown and Gold scoreless for nearly nine minutes to cut the lead to 56-47 before Libroia ended the drought with a jumper as 3:48 remained.

The Franklin Pierce ran continued to cut the lead to three points at 58-55 with 1:21 left after an 8-0 run. After a pair of free throws from Ginyard, Mike McDevitt brought the game to two points at 60-58 with a 3-pointer. After a missed 3-pointer from Matt Banton, looking to give the Ravens the lead with seven seconds left, Coffey converted both of his free throws to secure the victory.

The Panthers return home to Garden City this Saturday with a 3:30 pm contest against Saint Michael's in NE-10 action.
