Garden City, N.Y. - Visiting Stonehill outscored the Adelphi University men's basketball team 46-30 in the second on the way to a 77-60 Northeast-10 Conference win earlier tonight inside the Center for Recreation and Sport.
Michael Coffey and
Tavon Ginyard each scored 14 points to lead four Panthers (15-4, 7-4 NE-10) in double-figures. Coffey added seven rebounds while
Anthony Libroia filled his line with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
For the Skyhawks, Ryan Logan capped off a double-double night of 25 points and 17 rebounds with Pierce Cumpstone posting 20 points and nine rebounds. Stonehill controlled a plus-11 margin in the rebounding column while outshooting the Brown and Gold 49.0 percent (25-for-51) to 36.2 percent (21-for-58).
Adelphi led for a majority of the first half before Stonehill grabbed its first lead of the game with 1:06 remaining on the back of a three-pointer from Adam Bramanti. After two free throws from
Conor McGuinness gave the Panthers the lead back, Bramanti once again gave the Skyhawks the lead with five seconds remaining and put the Skyhawks in the locker room with a 31-30 advantage. Logan notched 11 points and nine rebounds for the Skyhawks in the opening half, while Coffey contributed nine points and six rebounds for the Brown and Gold. Stonehill shot 45.8 percent from the field in the half (11-for-24) on the way to the one-point lead.
An 18-7 run to open the second half helped Stonehill jump out to a 49-37 lead less than eight minutes in. Despite the effort from Adelphi, the Skyhawks continued to expand their lead, with the largest margin of 19 points coming with 50 seconds remaining. Cumpstone helped lead the charge with 18 points behind 6-for-7 shooting from the free throw line, while Logan posted 14 of his points and eight rebounds while playing in 19 of the final 20 minutes.
Adelphi returns to action this Saturday with a trip to North Andover, Mass. to face Merrimack at 3:30 pm.
