Shippensburg, Penn. – The Adelphi University volleyball team was able to hold Davis & Elkins
(25-16, 26-28, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9) and Shippensburg University (25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 16-25, 18-16) off in five sets on the second day of the Raider Classic in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania to remain spotless in 2015 at 4-0.
Vs. Davis & ElkinsShelby Stoner led the Panther attack with 18 kills while also adding four blocks on the defensive side. Meanwhile,
Megan Manierski paced the offense with 54 assists and added nine digs while
Sierra Crook and
Maria Buzzelli combined for 34 digs.
After the Brown and Gold took a 2-1 match lead, Davis & Elkins (0-3) was able to force a fifth and deciding set with a 25-22 fourth game win. The Panthers rallied from a 10-6 deficit in the set, however, the Senators held on to even the match at 2-2.
In the fifth set,
Blakely Murphy put the final touches on a 15-9 win on a kill from Manierski. The two teams played to an early 4-4 tie, however, a back-to-back attacking errors from Davis & Elkins allowed the Brown and Gold to jump out in front for good.
Vs. Shippensburg UniversityMandy Stanislovaitis was the focal point of the Adelphi offense with a team-high 18 kills and netted a double-double, adding 17 digs.
McKenna Clawson and
Shelby Stoner also topped double digits on the attack with 13 and 10 kills respectively, while
Sierra Crook picked up a game-high 30 digs. Manierski once again was the engine of the offense, posting 41 assists and collecting 15 digs.
For the second game in a row Adelphi took a 2-1 lead over Shippensburg (1-1) on the strength of a .323 attack percentage in game one and a defensive effort in game three that held the hosts to an attack percentage of .071. The third set swung to the Raiders, 25-16, with Shippensburg taking advantage of eight Adelphi errors.
The fifth and deciding game was a tight back and forth affair, featuring 14 ties. The final deadlock occured at 16, with the hosts getting a boost courtesy of an Adelphi attack error. However, a setting miscue by Shippensburg put the Panthers on top, 17-16 and a Stanislovaitis kill off a Manierski set secured a 18-16 fifth set and a 3-2 match victory for the Brown and Gold.
