Garden City, N.Y. – A penalty kick in the 78th minute was the lone tally in a Adelphi University men's soccer 1-0 victory against Dominican in the final game of the Second Annual Adelphi Alumni Invitational.
Despite owning a 13-1 shot advantage in the first half, the Panthers were unable to generate a strike. Dominican goalie Steven Hegner made four saves in the period including back-to-back stops from
Caelan Hueber in the 34th minute. Later in the 25th minute, a defensive save kept
Matt Giaconelli off board before Kenneth Ingergard was stopped by Hegner before the end of the half.
As Dominican started to create their own pressure, the Panthers were able to continue to create their opportunities as
Shane McLaughlin was able to send several cross through the middle. However, it was a
James Thristino that was able to go on a break that led to the Panthers' goal.
As Thristino broke up the right flank, a collision right on the edge of the box turned into a hand ball against Dominican that turned into a penalty kick chance for Adelphi. And that chance was not taken for granted as
Alejandro Penzini drove the kick into the back of the net.
The Panthers enjoy a week before their next contest when they travel to Millersville next Saturday for a 2:00 pm non-conference match.
