Waltham, Mass. – A goal midway through the first half was enough for the Adelphi University men's soccer team to upend Bentley 1-0 on the road this afternoon during Northeast-10 Conference play.
Picking the right time for his first goal of the season,
Toni Soler finished a cross from
Shane McLaughlin just as the clock struck 23 minutes with a volley to give the Panthers (5-2-1/4-1 NE-10) a 1-0 lead. The Soler shot was one of four in the period for Adelphi with the defensive unit not yielding an attempt to the Falcons (3-5/2-3 NE-10).
Also in the first period, Jack Blatchford was forced to make two saves for Bentley. Meanwhile, the Brown and Gold also produced a 5-0 advantage in corners kicks.
Bentley was able to create their first shot attempt in the second half followed by two more attempts, however, Adelphi created six more shots to finish the game with a 10-3 margin. Additionally,
Sergio Reyes kept the scoreboard in favor of the visitors with two stops. Blatchford and his defensive unit was forced to make six stops in the final period to keep the margin at 1-0.
Offensively, McLaughlin led the attack with three shots attempts.
James Thristino and
John Stojcevski each recorded two shots.
