Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Thristino's Two Tallies Leads Men's Soccer To 2-1 Win Versus Saint Michael's

Garden City, N.Y. – The quick response after an equalizing goal from visiting Saint Michael's allowed the Adelphi University men's soccer team to pick up a 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference win earlier today on Motamed Field.

Controlling the majority of the possession in the first half, the Panthers (4-2-1/3-1 NE-10) were able to breakthrough in the 20th minute to go up 1-0. After collecting a cross from the left flank, James Thristino collected possession in the right side of the back, took one side dribble to the left, and fired a low attempt that found its way into the left corner.

In the half, the Brown and Gold demonstrated time of possession by creating eight shots and yielding four. Nicco Roque made one save for the Purple Knights (4-3/2-2 NE-10) in the period.

With the Purple Knights looking to even the score early on in the second half, the visitors were able to take advantage of a corner kick in the 57th minute. As Brendan Todd drove in the corner kick, O.J. Rivas found the back end of the drive with a header into the goal to knot the scoreboard at 1-1.

The Panthers were up for the quick response to reclaim the lead just over a minute gone by. Thristino once again received credit for the tally as the freshman put in the rebound from Federico De Oliveira in the 58th minute. De Oliveira originally drove a set piece from approximately 20 yards out that forced Roque to make a fist save that fell to Thristino's feet.

Adelphi finished the second half with the identical shot margin of 8-4 as the first period to end the game up 16-8 in the column. Sergio Reyes made two saves for the Panthers in net.

Going back on the road this Tuesday, the Panthers travel to Bentley to face the Falcons at 3:30 pm in Waltham, Mass.
