Garden City, N.Y. – Three goals in each half helped clinch a 6-0 non-conference win for the Adelphi University women's soccer team against Dowling earlier this evening on Motamed Field.
With both teams exchanging possession in the early stages of the contest, Adelphi (5-2) was able to switch the field for control that eventually led to the first opportunity in the 28th minute. As
Laura Gomez dribbled down the left flank, she was able to send in a cross that connected on the head of
Kelsey Malles, redirecting the ball into the back right of the net.
With that early 1-0 advantage, the connection of Gomez and Malles teamed up again for the second goal as Gomez's initial shot attempted was stopped by Dowling goalkeeper Mariah Valva. However, Malles was there right in front of the net to pick up the rebound goal. Four minutes later, Gomez made true on her next attempt by driving a ball inside the top left corner of the box into the back right of the goal.
At the half, the Brown and Gold controlled an 18-2 shot advantage to demonstrate the presence on the offensive side. Valva was forced to make five saves for the Golden Lions in the period.
Looking to double up on their score in the second half, the Panthers came out strong in after kicking away Golden Lion opportunities. IN the 59th minute,
Jeanine Nunez put the Brown and Gold up 4-0 before making the score 5-0 four minutes later with two unassisted goal. The two strikes were from nearly identical spots outside of the top right of the box.
Teamwork factored into the sixth and final goal right in front of the net. As
Victoria Antonino set in a low line pass,
Brianna Doran flicked the pass into the doorstep of the goal with
Melissa Duarte finishing for her first goal of the year.
The Brown and Gold finished with a 28-6 shot advantage with
Anne Marie Ulliac making three saves on the other end in 73 minutes of action. Valva finished with eight stops for Dowling.
The Panthers return to the road this Saturday with a match in North Easton, Mass. To face Stonehill at 1:00 pm.
