Garden City, N.Y. – Adelphi University women's soccer was able to extend their winning streak to three matches and open up the Northeast-10 Conference schedule 3-0 with a 3-0 win against Saint Michael's earlier today on Motamed Field.
For the second straight contest, the Panthers (4-2/3-0 NE-10) were able to control possession and turn that time into a 13-1 shot advantage. An opportunity was found early on however, as the back line made a connection on a corner kick.
Taylor Salmon drove her corner kick from the left side of the net into the middle of the box, finding the head of
Taylor Groth to put Adelphi up 1-0.
Kaylee Sullivan was forced to make seven saves in the opening period for the Purple Knights (1-4-1/0-3 NE-10). In addition to their shot advantage, the Brown and Gold created four corner kicks while yielding two to Saint Michael's.
Looking to create a margin in the second half the Panthers were able to add a strike in the 67th minute as
Kelsey Malles found
Monica DiDonato in front of the net. DiDonato struck her shot off the right post and into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Brown and Gold. Malles used her distributing skills again as she set up
Jeanine Nunez with a wide open net 12 minutes later to increase the advantage to 3-0.
Adelphi finished with a 19-3 advantage in shots while creating eight corners and yielding two to the Purple Knights, both in the first half. Sullivan finished with nine saves for Saint Michael's while
Anne Marie Ulliac stopped two.
The Panthers conclude their three-game homestand this Wednesday by hosting Dowling for a 7:00 pm non-conference matchup.
