Softball Stage Set in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, OK – For the first time since becoming a Division II program in 1995, the Adelphi University softball program will compete in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship, hosted this season by the University of Central Oklahoma. In the first round of the eight-team, double elimination tournament, the Brown and Gold will face the University of Central Missouri (49-14).  The entire world series- will be played at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, located in Oklahoma City.

The "Jennies" of Central Missouri hail from the central region, where they defeated Augustana (S.D.) to advance to the Division II World Series, for the first time since 1995. In the final rankings before the NCAA Tournament, the Jennies were ranked a season-high 20th by the NFCA.

Leading the offense for UCM is sophomore Lauren Mabe, with a .411 batting average. If the season were to end today, her .411 average would be the fourth-best single-season average in team history. Junior Ali Jo Rogers leads the stolen base barrage. She has already set the new career stolen base record with 90 in her three years. She also continues to add to her single-season stolen base record. Rogers swiped three bags at the Super Regional giving her 49 for the season.

In the circle, Katie Shockley has gone 23h-1 in her last 24 decisions, giving her a 27-6 overall record. During her 23-1 stretch, Shockley has a 1.27 ERA with 93 strikeouts in 159.2 innings pitched, allowing just 114 hits.

The Panthers made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2015, making it 3-for-3 for Head Coach Breanna Nasti at the helm of AU. Adelphi swept Southern New Hampshire (5-3, 15 inn. and 4-2) to win the East Super Regional. They had to defeat No. 1 seed Caldwell twice to win the East Regional.

A pair of Daktronics East All-Region student-athletes lead the Panthers, in Lindsay Mapes and Brenna Martini. Starting with the offense, Martini has a .419/.494/.743 slash line, all team bests, and also leads the Panther offense with 17 doubles, nine home runs and 51 RBI. Martini also knows how to put the bat on the ball, striking out just nine times.

Krista King is the Panther's hit leader. She's racked up 65 in 185 at bats and carries a .351 batting average into the Championship. She's also the team's stolen base leader, having been successful on 14-of-17 attempts. In the circle, Mapes has a team-leading 18-9 record and 2.57 ERA. She's also struck out 150 batters in 203.1 innings and is holding opposing hitters to a .222 batting average. Her eight shutouts tie her for 15th in the NCAA.
