Box Score Manchester, NH- After picking up a 2-0 decision over Stonehill in the Northeast-10 Conference semifinals, the No. 1 SW Adelphi University softball team acted as the home team as they took on No. 1 NE Southern New Hampshire in the title game Saturday afternoon. A pair of home runs contributed to the 6-0 win for the Penmen, who earned the Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the second consecutive season. Both teams appeared in NFCA Top 25 this season and will await their fate for the East Regional tournament as the field is announced Monday, May 4. For their efforts,
Brenna Martini and
Lindsay Mapes were named to the 2015 All-Tournament team.
The first three innings went by scoreless for either team, although Adelphi managed to get runners on in each outing.
Jordan Catalano drew a full count walk and advanced to third by way of a
Victoria Wink double to centerfield. SNHU's ace, Maloof got the next two Panther batter to popup to end the inning. The top-seed in the Northeast Division got on the board in the top of the fourth inning courtesy of a two-run shot by Lindsey Bolduc after Katie Caruso reached on an infield single.
In the bottom of the fifth inning Adelphi again had runners in scoring position after Catalano singled to left field with one out and Martini followed with an infield single of her own.Sarah Lavallee increased the lead to four for the Penmen in the top of the sixth with a two-run shot of her own. With momentum in their favor they tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on two hits and one Panther miscue.
Krista King led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to left field and Wink reached after being hit by a pitch. However the two were left stranded as Maloof recorded a flyout and a strikeout to earn the 2015 Northeast-10 Champion title.
Southern New Hampshire and Adelphi were ranked second and third, respectively in the East Region in the latest regional rankings. The NCAA selection show will air at 10:00 am on Monday, May 4
here, which will decide when and where the teams will return to action.
