Mapes Tosses Shutout in NE-10 Semifinals, Softball Defeats Stonehill 2-0

Manchester, NH – The Adelphi University softball program will make their second appearance in three seasons in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship game after defeating No. 2 NE Stonehill 2-0 in the semifinals, Friday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 25-18 and the visiting Skyhawks drop to 21-15.

The Panthers scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning, racking up seven hits in the win and committing just one error. Brenna Martini went 3-for-3 at the plate and was responsible for one run as a 1-for-3 Victoria Wink scored the other.

Both Martini and Wink reached in the bottom of the first inning, registering back-to-back singles with two outs, but were stranded as the final batter retired by way of a groundout.  With two outs, Wink reached on a Skyhawk miscue to be later advanced by Martini who singled through the left side.  Jaclyn Binstock singled to the shortstop, allowing Wink to advance home on the throw. Taking advantage of a wild pitch, Martini scored to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

The next four innings went by scoreless but not before Stonehill threatened in the top of the seventh.  A two-out rally began with pinch-hitter Taylor Lester who singled up the middle. Erin Brayden also got the call to pinch hit, driving a ball down the left field line to push Lester into scoring position. Lindsay Mapes got the final batter to groundout to third, picking up her fifteenth win of the season. In 7.0 complete innings she allowed six hits for zero runs and struck out nine Stonehill batters.

The team will return to Southern New Hampshire tomorrow afternoon to face the hosting No. 1 NE Penmen at 1:00 p.m. for the Northeast-10 champion title. Can't make it to the game but don't want to miss out on the action? The game will be broadcast live on northeast10.tv free of charge.
