Baseball Streak Snapped By Pace, 10-2

Pace scored eight unanswered runs on the way to a 10-2 divisional win this afternoon.

Garden City, NY - The Adelphi University baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped this afternoon with a 10-2 Northeast-10 Conference setback to visiting Pace.

Three Panthers (9-10/6-4 NE-10) notched two hits today in Nick Zito, Donato Signore, and John Fogarty. Rich Cambria went 1-for-2 with a RBI while also throwing out to attempted steals. John Bivas came on to throw a shutout ninth, forcing two groundouts and a fly out.

Josh Garran was the lone pitcher needed for the Setters (13-10/7-3 NE-10) as the starter went the distance with 9.0 innings on the mound to move to 4-1 on the season bheind six strikeouts and no earned runs. Tom Midolo went 2-for-5 from the dish with three runs scored while driving in the same number. Five other Pace individuals picked up two hits each, including leadoff man Andrew Coffey who scored three times.

Pace took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Coffey scored the first run on a Nick LoBello single before Midolo scored on a single from John Kukura during the next at-bat. In the second inning, the Brown and Gold tied the score at 2-2 on four hits and an error. Kory Cassara singled with one out and later scored on a fielding error. Cambria drove in Eric Hassell, who reached on the error, with a single to center to even the game.

However, five runs in the next half inning pushed Pace to a 7-2 lead. After Coffey singled and Frank Mayo was hit by a pitch, Midolo put a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for the most damaging hit of the inning. Kukura later scored an unearned run followed by Paul Piccolino scoring the fifth and final run of the inning on a Brett Bittiger single.

Lobello added a RBI single in the sixth followed by two unearned runs in the eighth gave Pace the final tallies of the victory. Garran tossed four inning after the second with no hits to keep the Panther offense under control and throw the complete game.

Saturday's doubleheader at Saint Michael's has been cancelled and replaced with a doubleheader at New Haven, starting at 12:00 pm.
