Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team used an early push and a late charge, out scoring Assumption College, 11-1 in the first and four quarters, securing a 13-6 victory on Tuesday, April 7. With the win the Panthers improve to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Salvatore Tuttle led the offensive charge with seven points on two goals and five assists, while teammate
Nick Susko added three tallies and one helper. Jac Cutrone (1G, 1A),
Tim Daly (1G, 1A), Chris Racalbuto (2G), and
Jamie McAndrew (2G) posted two points each in the win.
Three different players caused two turnovers for Adelphi, as
James McCann,
Patrick Starke and
Bryan Moritt disrupted the Assumption offense.
John English won 13 of 23 face-off attempts and grabbed a game-high six ground balls, while
DJ Mauro made six stops to pick up his second win of the season.
Adelphi jumped on Assumption early, ripping off six straight goals to start the contest. The first tally came at the 12:26 mark off thet stick of McAndrew and the final goal in the run was courtesy of Racalbuto with 3:04 remaining in the first. The Greyhounds and Panthers traded goals in the final 2:19, sending Adelphi into the second stanza with a 7-1 lead.
Daly pushed the home edge to 8-1 just 57 seconds into the second frame, but the visitors responded with five of the next six goals. The Assumption run lasted from the midway point of the second quarter to the 4:08 mark of the third, clawing the Greyhounds to within three goals on a Connor Munisteri effort, 9-6. However, the Brown and Gold would wake-up in the fourth, scoring the final four goals of the game and holding Assumption scoreless in the final 15 minutes, claiming a 13-6 victory.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 11 when they welcome in Northeast-10 rival and third ranked LeMoyne College for a 1:00 pm contest.
