#6 Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up By #3 LeMoyne, 14-10

The Panthers made a late run, but came up short, 14-10.

Garden City, N.Y. - The sixth ranked men's lacrosse team played found themselves trailing, 9-3 at the half to #3 LeMoyne College and the six goal margin proved to big to overcome, as the Panthers suffered a 14-10 defeat on Saturday, April 11 on Motamed Field. With the loss Adelphi falls to 9-2 overall and 7-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins improve to 11-1 overall and 9-0 in conference.

Salvatore Tuttle and Connor Duddy were the high men for the Adelphi offense with three points each, Tuttle on three goals and Duddy on two tallies and an assist. Chris Racalbuto was the only other Panther with more then one point on the afternoon, scoring one goal and handing out one assist.

Defensively, both James McCann and Joseph Sciara forced two turnovers. John English controlled the face-off "x" for the Panthers, winning 21 of his 27 attempts and also grabbed a team-high seven ground balls. Teammate Joseph Catalanotti picked up six ground balls, while Sciara picked up five. John McGrath and DJ Mauro combined to make 11 saves in the loss. 

Adelphi opened the scoring, getting on the board 3:43 into the action off the stick of Tuttle. However, the Dolphins responded by closing the quarter with four straight goals, putting the Brown and Gold in a three goal hole after 15 minutes.

The momentum seemed to change in the second quarter thanks to Duddy and Tuttle scoring two of the first three goals, pulling the Panther to within three goals, 6-3 with 6:12 left. LeMoyne proved up to the task for a second straight stanza, closing the half with three striaght, the final tally coming with just 26 ticks left, sending the game to the intermission with Adelphi trailing 9-3.

Adelphi turned up the heat on defense after halftime, holding the Dolphins to just two goals in the third. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not did not take complete advantage of the defensive effort, outscoring LeMoyne by just one, with the final goal of the third coming off the stick of Cory Stavis with 32 seconds left to pull within five goals, 11-6.

Tuttle opened the scoring in the final 15 minutes of play, getting the Panthers to within four, 11-7, with 10:19 left, but LeMoyne answered with back-to-back goals to force the margin back to six, 13-7 with 7:41 on the clock. Adelphi mounted one final charge at the lead, starting with a Sciara goal with 7:05 left on the clock. Duddy and Jamie McAndrew would add goals of their own in the ensuing couple of minutes, pulling to within three, 13-10 with 4:14 remaining. However, a Matt Taylor goal for the Dolphins with 3:28 left effectively ended the Brown and Gold rally and secured a, 14-10 LeMoyne win.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 18 when they welcome Southern New Hampshire to Motamed Field in Garden City for a 1:00 pm contest.
