Keene, NH - The #5 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team scored seven goals in the first quarter, against Franklin Pierce University and never looked back in a 14-5 victory on Saturday, April 25 in Keene, New Hampshire. With the win Adelphi closes out the regular season at 12-2 overal land 9-2 in the Northeast-10, locking up the third seed in the conference tournament, while the Ravens slip to 11-3 and 8-3 in the conference.
Nick Susko and
Jamie McAndrew led the way on offense with four points each, Susko found the back of the net four times, while McAndrew nettetd three goals and added one helper.
Connor Duddy posted three points (2G, 1A) and Chris Racalbuto (2A) and
Tim Daly (1G, 1A) picked up two points each.
Joe Giardina paced the defense with four caused turnovers, while Giardina and
John English collected six ground balls. English also controlled the face-off for the Brown and Gold winning 17 of his 23 attempts.
DJ Mauro picked up his fifth win of the season, making seven saves, while
John McGrath made five stops in relief.
Adelphi found the back of the net just 55 seconds into the action when Duddy put a ripple in the back of the Ravens goal. Susko scored his first goal of the contact just 33 ticks later off an assist from Daly. Franklin Pierce responded by slipping one past Mauro, but back-to-back goals from McAndrew kicked-off a five goal run that was closed out by Susko with 1:33 left, giving the Panthers a 7-1 edge.
The Ravens scored again in the last minue, but the Brown and Gold lead by five, 7-2 heading into the second stanza. After four and a half minutes of scoreless action to open the second, the Panthers ripped off three straight tallies to take a 10-2 lead with 3:54 left in the half. Franklin Pierce momentarily put a stop to Adelphi's offense, scoring a goal of their own, but Adelphi got goals from McAndrew and Susko in the final minute, putting the Brown and Gold up by nine heading into the intermission, 12-3.
In the third and fourth quarters the contest became a defensive battle, with both teams tallying just two goals in the final 30 seconds, which earned the Panthers a 14-5 victory.
Adelphi will return to action on Tuesday, 28 when they host a first round game in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
