Springfield, MA - Four runs in two innings was enough for hosting American International to pick up a 4-3 Northeast-10 Conference divisional win today against the Adelphi University baseball team.
From his leadoff position,
Donato Signore registered two hits and three RBI for Adelphi (15-15/7-5 NE-10 SW).
John Fogarty and
Michael Stack each also added two hits.
TJ Santiago started the contest, throwing 5.0 innings with two strikeouts.
For the host Yellow Jackets (11-19/6-7 NE-10 SW), Chris Starcun put forth two hits and two RBI while CJ Boykin and Eugene Quirk notched two hits each as well. Colin Sledzik got the start, tossing 8.0 inning for his fifth victory of the year behind five strikeouts and just two earned runs.
After four scoreless inning, Signore put the Panthers ahead 1-0 in the fifth inning with a RBI single to drive in Fogarty. Fogarty got on board with a one out single that was followed by a Stack single. The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the sixth inning as Dave Clark scored on a fielder's choice.
In the seventh, American International scored three more times to gain a 4-1 advantage. Starcun picked up both his RBIs with a bases loaded single up the middle to push the score to 4-1. The Yellow Jackets originally claimed the lead when Clark was hit by a pitch while the bases were loaded.
The Brown and Gold looked for the rally in the ninth as Signore drove in two more, Fogarty and Stack, with another single. However, Mike Gentile recorded the final two outs for the host to earn his second save of the season.
The two teams return to the field tomorrow for the final two games of the series starting at 11:00 am.
