Garden City, NY – Coming away with 24 hits on the afternoon, the Adelphi University baseball team upended Dominican 15-7 earlier today at William J. Bonomo Field in non-conference action.
Tyler Murphy went 4-for-4 from the plate for the Panthers (15-14) with two runs scored and two RBI while
Donato Signore added three hits and two RBI with two runs.
Nick Zito drove in four runs on three hits and adding two runs while
Alex Zykoff notched three hits and three RBI.
Michael Tarpey,
Michael Ceparano and
John Thompson combined to allow no earned runs through the first 5.2 innings pitched.
Eight different Chargers (16-20) got on the board with a hit while Jayson Gray led the team with two RBI. Johathan Martinez scored two runs from the leadoff position.
Signore started the offensive attack for the Brown and Gold with a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the first inning. Back-to-back doubles from
Robert Vani and Zito added the second run before the Panthers took a 3-0 lead after one inning following a RBI single from Zykoff.
Three RBI singles in the second increased the lead while Signore added a RBI double in the third to make it 7-0 in favor of Adelphi. In the fourth, Zito highlighted a three-run inning with a two-run homerun to right field. The Panther lead continued to grow in the fifth with five runs on seven hits that included three RBI singles to make the count 15-0 after five.
Dominican began to chip into the deficit with an unearned run in the sixth and two runs on two hits in the seventh. After a scoreless eighth, Dominican scored four runs in the ninth that included a two RBI single from Gray before
Ricky Van Allen closed out the win with a groundball.
Adelphi returns to divisional play in the Northeast-10 Conference with a three-game series at American International in Springfield, MA starting on Saturday with a 1:00 pm game followed by an 11:00 am doubleheader on Sunday.
