Garden City, NY – A 6-1 fourth period for the Adelphi University men's lacrosse helped spark a 19-13 victory earlier today on Motamed Field against Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire.
Salvatore Tuttle led the scoring attack with five points behind three goals and two assists while
Nick Susko,
Cory Stavis, and
Connor Duddy all added four points for the Panthers (10-2/8-2 NE-10).
Joseph Sciara finished with three points and 11 groundballs while
John English finished 24-for-35 in faceoffs with 10 groundballs.
DJ Mauro made seven saves in the second half to earn the victory.
Cameron Joyce matched Tuttle's scoring output with five points for the Penmen (1-12/1-9 NE-10). Zach Jacobs notched three goals for all of his points with six others registering a goal. Crosby Nicholson made 13 saves in the effort.
After the Panthers opened up a 2-1 lead less than five minutes into the first period on the back of a goal each from
Joseph Sciara and
Salvatore Tuttle, Southern New Hampshire rattled off four straight goals. In that spurt, the Penmen included a man-down strike as well as a man-up tally.
Cory Stavis added a goal off the assist from
Jamie McAndrew to cut the Panther deficit to 5-3 with eight seconds in the opening period.
The Brown and Gold looked to continue the momentum in the second period by scoring the first three of four goals in the period, tying the score at 6-6 after an unassisted goal from
Anthony Gomes. After the two squads traded goals to bring the game to 7-7, Cameron Joyce added his third goal of the first half for the Penmen on a man-up opportunity, going into halftime up 8-7.
Despite trailing at the half, Adelphi lead in shots, 27-21, and groundballs, 28-18.
John English went 11-for-16 in the faceoff circle while
John McGrath made six saves in net. Crosby Nicholson added one better than McGrath with seven stops for Southern New Hampshire.
After again trading goals back-and-forth to start the third, including two from
Nick Susko, Tuttle put the Panthers in front 12-11 with 1:29 remaining in the period. Phil LaTorre responded for the Penmen with less than a minute, however,
Cory Stavis brought the lead back to Adelphi with 35 seconds remaining with a strike off the assist from Sciara.
Four unanswered goals to start the fourth period, each of which was scored by a different Panther, helped stretch the lead for the Panthers to 17-12 with nearly five minutes left in regulation. After Keifer Heckman added the fifth man-up goal of the game for Southern New Hampshire, Chris Raculbuto and
Anthony DeLuca put the finishing touches on a 19-13 win for Adelphi.
