Hempstead, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team opened up their contest against Philadelphia University with seven goals in the first eight minutes of action, setting the tone for what would be a 19-4 victory on Saturday, March 7 at Hofstra University. With the win the Panthers stay flawless at 3-0, while the Rams continue to search for their first win of the season at 0-2.
Alexa Froccaro led all players with seven points on two goals and five assists, which tied her career-high in helpers. The Brown and Gold had three players post five points, as
Jacqueline Jahelka had five goals on just seven shots,
Rachel O'Brien scored twice and assisted on three goals and newcomer
Chandley Borges netted two goals and had three assists. Two other Panthers had two points, courtesy of two
Natalie Badolato tallies and an assist and a goal from
Rachel Aitkens.
Defensively, three different players caused two turnovers, as
Ryley Weber, Froccaro and
Kate Beier forced two miscues each from Philadelphia. Weber also grabbed a game-high four ground balls and four other players had two each. Using their usual formula on the draw, getting five draw controls each, from
Felicia Mills and Camielle Rosellini.
Taylor Hayes,
Taylor Langston and
Hailey Peterson combined in the win, with Langston making three stops and Hayes putting up a clean sheet in the first half.
Adelphi opened the contest hot, scoring their first goal of the game just 1:43 into the action, off the stick of
Danielle Jaycox. That sparked a run of 13 straight goals that would send the game into intermission with the Panthers up, 13-0. During the run, Adelphi scored their first seven goals in just over six and a half minutes, before Philadelphia finally got the Brown and Gold to settle in.
The Rams got on the board in the second half, scoring at the 28:27 mark, but Adelphi would post two three goal runs, sandwiched around a three goal spurt from Philadelphia, ending the game in the home team's favor, 19-4.
The Panthers also won the statistical battle, out shooting the visitors, 33-10, picking up more ground balls, 19-14, winning more draw controls, 18-7 and committing less turnovers, 16-18.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, March 11 when they play host to Southern Connecticut State at 6:00 pm in their Northeast-10 Conference opener on Motamed Field.
