Boca Raton, FL – Early scoring and a strong pitching performance helped propel Molloy to a 12-1 win against the Adelphi University baseball team at Lynn University earlier today.
Shea Spitzberth earned the victory for the Lions (5-6) behind seven shutout innings of work with 12 strikeouts. Deilynss Guzman notched two hits and two RBI as the Molloy recorded 14 hits on the day as four additional individuals posted two hits each.
Vincent Sharkey was one of five players with a hit for the Panthers (1-4) while also scoring the lone run of the game.
The Lions put three runs on the board in the first two innings that included five singles. From the fourth through eighth innings, Molloy combined to score nine more runs that included a three-run seventh. Guzman provided a two-RBI in the seventh to help push the Lions ahead.
The Panthers pushed across one run in the top of the eighth without posting a hit thanks to three walks and an error.
Eric Hassell was hit in a 3-0 pitch that scored Sharkey from third to cut into the lead at 10-1. Molloy added two more runs in the bottom half towards the final of 12-1.
The Brown and Gold continue the Florida road trip with a 6:00 pm first pitch at Barry University Tuesday evening from Miami Shores.
