Garden City, NY – Behind the strength of six players scoring at least one goal, the #1 women's lacrosse team won their fourth straight game earlier this afternoon after serving the Greyhounds of Assumption College their first loss of the season. The 14-4 the victory pushes the Panther's record out to 5-0, 2-0 NE-10 while Assumption slips to 4-1, 0-1 NE-10.
Senior midfielder,
Alexa Froccaro led all scorers with a game high five goals while teammate
Emily Keesling chipped in with three of her own, coupled with two assists.
Danielle Jaycox and
Jacqueline Jahelka each added a pair of goals and an assist in the win while
Rachel O'Brien did her part with three points on two helpers and a score.
Kate Beier rounded out the scoring contingent with a goal and an assist.
In cage, goalie
Taylor Hayes had another solid outing as she recorded seven saves while allowing just four goals in 60 minutes of action.
For the Greyhounds, Camille Auger, Meghan Cushing, Molly Brown and Jen McDonald accounted for the four Assumption goals with Amy McNeil tacking on the lone assist.
The Brown and Gold wasted little time and got on the scoreboard first with two scores less than four minutes into the game. Keesling dished to both Froccaro for the first and Jaycox for the second. A Cushing goal on a McNeil assist cut the lead in half, but that would be the only production of the half the Greyhounds would see. Adelphi rattled off seven unanswered goals through the remaining 24 minutes to make it a 9-1 affair by halftime.
In similar fashion, the second started similar to the first in that the Panthers tacked on two more quick goals to push their lead out to 10. Two back-to-back Assumption scores cut their deficit to single digits, but once again Adelphi extended their lead courtesy of a three-goal run to make it 14-3. Assumption's Brown capped the game with an unassisted goal, closing the match with the scoreboard reading 14-4 in favor of the home team.
The Panthers out-shot their counterparts 31 to 13, turned the ball over just 10 times compared to Assumption's 21, scooped up 16 ground balls and tallied 13 draw controls.
Up next, the women's lacrosse team will host the Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, March 17 on Motamed Field at 4pm.
