Oakdale, NY – In a Long Island matchup of two top-10 teams, the fourth ranked Adelphi University men's lacrosse came out on top 11-4 earlier this afternoon at #10 Dowling in non-conference action.
Jamie McAndrew and
Connor Duddy each led with three points for the Panthers (2-0) with two goals and one assist apiece.
John English went 15-for-18 on the faceoff while adding a goal.
John McGrath and
DJ Mauro each played a half making and equally splitting 10 saves.
Brian White and Eddie Hillkewicz put forth two points each for the host Golden Lions (1-1) as White posted a goal and an assist while Hillkewicz struck for two goals.
The Panthers started the contest with three unanswered goals as English scored off the opening faceoff to kick start the attack. Dowling came back to score two straight, including a man-up opportunity on the first, to cut the deficit to 3-2 at the end of one period.
In the second period, the Brown and Gold rattled off three more unanswered tallies, all unassisted. The Golden Lions again struck on a man-up opportunity as White hit the back of the net with 11 seconds remaining, going into halftime with Adelphi leading 6-3.
Duddy added his second strike of the game with 9:15 left in the third period before
Tim Daly manufactured a tally off a McAndrew assist to give the Panthers an 8-3 advantage heading into the fourth.
Dowling opened the fourth period with its first goal of the second half less than four minutes into the period. However, the third 3-0 run from the Panthers accounted for the final score of 11-4 with McAndrew starting the streak with 2:09 remaining.
The Panthers jump back into Northeast-10 Conference play this Saturday with a trip to Albany to face Saint Rose at 2:00 pm.
