Garden City, N.Y. - A balanced offensive attack led the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team past the Yellow Jackets of American International College, 18-2, in snowy conditions on Motamed Field on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers (1-0, 1-0 NE-10) had 14 players score at least once in the victory over the Yellow Jackets 0-1, 0-1 NE-10), while tallying a 51-16 advantage in total shots.
Salvatore Tuttle,
Jamie McAndrew,
Cory Stavis and
Travis Wahl each netted two goals for Adelphi on the day, while Tuttle dished out a team-high three assists to cap off his five points. New faceoff man
John English won 18 of the 24 that he contested, while he and
Sean Hinchy each picked up five ground balls to help the Panthers win that battle by a 39-26 margin.
John McGrath started in net for Adelphi, making five saves in his 30 minutes of shutout first half action while
DJ Mauro and
Nicholas Badaracco shared the second half between the pipes. Yellow Jacket goalie Perry Booker stopped 13 shots in the setback.
Tuttle's first goal of the contest and season came less than three minutes into the game, and was one of five that Adelphi tallied in the opening quarter. The Panthers kept the offensive pressure on throughout, and added seven goals to their tally to take a 12-0 lead at the half. As the snow continued to fall on Motamed Field, Adelphi added three more goals in the third quarter before the visitors got on the board. Bobby Spano and Jeff Sienkiewicz each tallied a goal for the Yellow Jackets but another three for Adelphi in the final quarter saw them end the day with the 18-2 victory.
Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, February 24 when they travel to nearby Oakdale, N.Y. to take on cross-island foe Dowling College at 4 p.m.
