Box Score 2 San Bernardino, CA – The Adelphi University softball program continued their spring break trip across California as they took on California State University San Bernardino on Wednesday afternoon. The Coyotes combined for 15 hits over both games resulting in back-to-back wins to improve to 8-5.
Jordan Catalano blasted her first home run this season, going 2-5 at the plate over both games with two RBI.
Jaclyn Binstock also posted a 2-5 day, including one double.
Victoria Wink went 2-3 and
Krista King scored twice with a .500 average in game two.
Game 1The Brown and Gold were in the hole after the first inning of play as Victoria Lievanos registered her second home run of the season, giving the home team a 1-0 advantage. The second inning played out much of the same way as Kaylee Gemmell hit her first home run of the year to put the Coyotes up 2-0.
The top of the fifth seemed promising as
Christina Palmenteri collected a stand up double after hitting the right field wall. King found her way on base by way of an infield base hit, but the two Panthers were left stranded as the final out popped up. The Blue and Black tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth after a bases loaded sacrifice fly allowed runners to advance.
Martini's shot to right field bounced over the fence for a leadoff double but the latter half of the lineup were unable to advance her or Jackie Binstock, who reached by way of a fielder's choice in the sixth. The hosts walked away with a 3-0 victory as a result.
Game 2The Coyotes of San Bernardino carried over their momentum from game one into the second game of the afternoon as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Adelphi found their way on the scoreboard in the third inning after trailing 6-0. A base hit for King and a wild pitch had her standing on second, when Martini reached on a error, allowing the leadoff to scamper home.
In the top of the fifth inning, Catalano drilled a two-run shot over the center field fence, cutting the home team lead to five, 8-3. Wink and Martini followed suit, with back-to-back base hits with no outs, but were left stranded at the end of the inning.
Catalano drew a walk in the top of the seven and advanced by way of a Wink double. Martini picked up an RBI as her ground ball left Wink at second and the Panthers with another run to make the score 8-4. With two outs
Jaclyn Binstock found the left field grass to keep the rally alive, but it fell short as the Coyote defense held on for a final score of 8-4.
