Albany, N.Y. – A hot shooting Saint Rose team was able to snap a seven-game winning streak for the Adelphi University men's basketball team this afternoon with a 95-74 victory in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Manny Suarez scored a game-high 25 points despite the setback while also adding five rebounds to go along with
Anthony Libroia dishing out 11 assists combined with 15 points.
Ryan DeNicola added 12 points and eight rebounds.
The host Golden Knights shot 55.0 percent (33-for-60) from the field along with a 91.7 free throw percentage (22-for-24). Tyler Sayre and Julian Lipinski each totaled 42 points that included Sayre going 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Saint Rose also held a 36-23 rebounding advantage.
After three ties to start the game, a 7-0 run throughout a two-minute span for the Golden Knights help the host create a lead to hold for the remained of the half. A jumper from Pharroh Gordon expanded the lead to nine, the largest of the half, at 30-21 with 8:02 left.
Lipinski made the advantage nine points again with less than seven minutes left at 34-25 before Suarez cut the lead to 38-36 with 3-pointer from the top of the key. Shane Herrity put Saint Rose ahead 40-36 going into the break one a baseline layup with 26 seconds left.
Suarez led all scorers with 17 points at halftime to go along with four rebounds while Libroia posted 10 points and three assists. Gordon and Lupinski each scored 11 points for the Golden Knights to lead six individuals with at least four points. Both teams knocked more than half their shots in the first 20 minutes as Saint Rose held a slight 52.9 shooting percentage compared to 51.9 percent for the Brown and Gold.
Back-to-back jumpers from Sayre early in the second half opened up a 10-point lead at 50-40, a margin that gradually increased for Saint Rose throughout the second period. An "and-one" from
Damon Coleman with 5:16 left gave the Golden Knights their first 20-point advantage with 5:16 left, a deficit large enough to hold on for a 95-74 win.
Adelphi returns to the court this Friday, hosting Concordia (N.Y.) for a 7:30 pm non-conference matchup.
