Volleyball Extends Streak To 16 With Five Set Victory At Saint Anselm

Manchester, N.H. – A comeback from victory from a 2-1 deficit helped the Adelphi University volleyball team extend its current winning streak to 16 matches with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12, 18-16) victory earlier today at Saint Anselm.

Behind a .424 hitting percentage, Mandy Stanislovaitis led the attack for the Panthers with 17 kills while Megan Manierski paced the offense with 54 assists. The sophomore setter also added four service aces and 11 digs. McKenna Clawson and Shelby Stoner each swung for 12 kills with Clawson adding 11 digs.

At the net, Madison Canestrari and Bailey Riedel blocked four balls each while Canestrari attacked for 10 kills. Sierra Crook manufactured 21 digs from her libero position.

Katy Teets led the Hawks with 18 kills, ahead of 15 and 12 respectively from Sarah Lowery and Amanda Williams. Lowery added 12 digs and Jewel Hays just trailed Manierski for the match-high in assists with 52.

A kill from Lauren Oxley put the host up 7-1 in the opening set, a lead they held onto for a 25-22 victory to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks put down 16 kills in the set as Teets concluded the game with one of her 18 on the afternoon.

Adelphi looked to even the match at one game apiece by jumping out to a 9-2 advantage behind a Clawson kill. Back-to-back attack errors from Saint Anselm pushed the lead to 21-11, helping the Brown and Gold hold on for a 25-19 win despite a 5-0 late run from the Hawks.

Saint Anselm bettered a .360 hitting percentage from Adelphi in the third set with a .417 percentage that included 19 kills to take a 2-1 match lead after a 25-22 win in the middle frame. The Hawks grabbed the lead at 3-2 in the set and never relinquished the lead, building an advantage as large as seven points at 18-11 after a Hays kill.

A 12-2 run in the middle of the fourth set helped the Panthers force a fifth set with a 25-12 victory in the fourth set. After being subbed in with a 13-5 lead, Amanda Borges helped finish out the victory with three kills while Stoner tallied four in the set.

After Adelphi created a 7-3 lead in the final set, the Hawks clawed back to even the game at 8-8 before each team went back-and-forth during the final points. Tied at 16-16, with Clawson serving, Manierski set Stanislovaitis and then Stoner to cap off an 18-16 win and keep the winning streak going at 16 matches.
