Volleyball Claims NE-10 Regular Season Championship with 3-1 Win Over Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team captured the program's first-ever Northeast-10 regular season championship with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19) victory over visiting Franklin Pierce University on Friday, November 13 in the Center for Recreation and Sports.

The match clinched the Northeast-10 title for the Brown and Gold, as the Panthers defeated the second-place Ravens to run their spotless conference record of 13-0 to go along with their overall record of 22-4 -- which includes a program-best 17 game win streak. The Ravens fell to 17-9 overall and 11-2 in Northeast-10 play with the defeat.

Mandy Stanislovaitis was one of three players who posted double digit attack totals for Adelphi with 18 and she was joined by McKenna Clawson at 13 and Shelby Stoner at 12. Megan Manierski had a game-high 54 set assists, while Sierra Crook racked up a game-best 30 digs. She was joined in double digit digs by Ajsha Mekulovic (19), Clawson (18) and Manierski (11). The Panthers held Franklin Pierce to attack percentages of .044, .000 and .068 in their three game wins, while hitting, .173, .297 and .196 in those same sets.

The Brown and Gold jumped out to leads of 6-0 and 5-0 in the first two games, and in each case the visitors managed to pull to within two points at 14-12 in each game. In both cases, the Panthers used a quick 6-2 spurt to gain separation on the way to wins of 25-20 and 25-16.

The third set was back and forth from the start, but a 4-1 Raven run put Adelphi in a 20-15 hole. The Brown and Gold fought back, getting to within just one point at 22-21 on a kill from Madison Canestrari. Unfortunately for the hosts, Franklin Pierce scored the final three points of the game to secure the 25-21 set and extend the match. The fourth game was knotted at 10-all when Adelphi started to creep away from the visitors -- out-scoring the Ravens 15-9 the rest of the way to lay claim to a 25-19 win.

Adelphi will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 14 when they play host to Southern New Hampshire University at 1:00 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
