Volleyball Backs Down Bridgeport, 3-1

Mandy Stanislovaitis pushed the Panthers past the Purple Knights with a career-high 24 kills.

Bridgeport, CT - Mandy Stanislovaitis used a career-high 24 kills to help push the Adelphi University volleyball team past the University of Bridgeport by a score of 3-1 (25-23, 30-32, 25-22, 25-21) on Friday, October 9 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. With the win the Panthers improve to 12-4 overall, while the Purple Knights slip to 12-7 on the season.

McKenna Clawson joined Stanislovaitis with a double digit total in the kill column with 11, while Megan Manierski picked up 47 assists running the Adelphi offense. Sierra Crook paced the defense with 31 digs, while Manierski picked up 14 and Shelby Stoner chipped in a total of six blocks.

The first set was knotted at 10, when a Manierski ace kicked off a 9-4 Adelphi run that was capped by another ace, this time from Bailey Riedel, putting the Panthers ahead 19-14. The Purple Knights made a run, getting within one point, 23-22, before dropping the first game, 25-23. The second game was a tight, back and forth affair, that took extra points to decide the outcome. A Stanislovaitis kill tied the game at 30 all, but the Brown and Gold could not push past Bridgeport. Back-to-back kills from the Purple Knights sunk the Panthers, 32-30 and evened the contest at one game each.

The third game was all Adelphi from the start. A, 4-0 Panther lead became a 13-5 bulge and remained a, 18-12 gap. Bridgeport battled back, pulling themselves within two points, 24-22, on a Katarina Krstonosic kill. Unfortunately for the hosts, another Stanislovaitis kill slammed the door, giving Adelphi a 25-22 win and a two games to one lead. The Brown and Gold tralied early in the fourth game, falling behind 11-6. Another Stanislovaitis kills parked a 6-1 Panther run that knotted the game at 12 all. From there Adelphi gradually took control of the set, out scoring the hosts, 13-9 on the way to a 25-21 game four win and a 3-1 match victory.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, October 10 when they travel to North Easton, Massachusetts for a 1:00 pm Northeast-10 Conference contest with Stonehill College.
