Garden City, N.Y. – An opening penalty kick goal followed by two strikes from
Federico De Oliveira helped give the Adelphi University men's soccer team a 3-0 non-conference win against Queens College earlier this evening.
Looking to gain momentum early in the contest, the Panthers were benefited from a foul inside the box during the 26th minute that allowed
Alejandro Penzini to put forth the first goal of the game. Quickly following in the 27th minute was De Oliveira with one his first two goals of the evening. The midfielder was able to put some fancy footwork on his defender and drive a left footed ball past the diving Queens goalkeeper, Robbie Webster.
In the first 45 minutes, Adelphi outshot Queens 9-5 that forced Webster to make three saves for the Knights. Meanwhile,
Sergio Reyes came up with one stop for the Brown and Gold.
De Oliveira was able to add to the lead in the 67th minute of action with his second goal of the season, finishing a feed from
Caelan Hueber. De Oliveira put a sliding foot on the ball just inside the box that beat Webster to his right to put the exclamation point on a 3-0 victory.
The Panthers ended the night with a 15-8 shot advantage while both teams created three corner kicks apiece. Webster ended the 90 minutes with five saves with Reyes making three stops in the second period to finish with four.
Next up for the Brown and Gold is an 11:00 am Northeast-10 Conference match in North Easton, Mass. to face the Skyhawks of Stonehill on Saturday.
