Thristino's Hat Trick Pushes Men's Soccer to 3-0 Win at Stonehill

Easton, Mass. – Freshman James Thristino helped the Adelphi University men's soccer team run an unbeaten streak to six games earlier today by scoring all three goals in a 3-0 win at Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill.

Neither team was able to come up with a shot attempt in the first 20 minutes before the Skyhawks' Adam Branco pushed an attempt wide in the 22nd minute. Two minutes later, Thristino entered the match looking to start the attack for the Brown and Gold. Alejandro Penzini created the first effort for Adelphi with a header off a Federico De Oliveira corner that was saved by Stonehill's goalkeeper Luke Besse.

After one more shot attempt for each side, Thristino netted his first strike of the day in the 42nd minute. The rookie corralled a deflection in the box and managed to shoot off of a defender that found it way past Besse.

The Panthers ended the first 45 minutes with a 3-1 slight advantage in shots and 2-1 margin in corner kicks. Besse made two stops while Sergio Reyes was not challenged for Adelphi.

The attack continued for the Brown and Gold in the second half as the squad outshoot their opponents 3-0 in the first 12 minutes. However, it was not until the 72nd minute that Thristino struck again. Taking advantage of a turnover in the host's defensive half, the freshman notched his fourth goal of the season on a breakaway to make it 2-0.

Adding the final touch on the day, Thristino made it 3-0 Adelphi in the 85th minute with a 30 yard chip that made it's away over Besse. Thristino once again was benefitted by a turnover in the offensive end.

The Panthers finished the day with an 8-2 shot advantage as the defensive unit of Penzini, Emil Thomsen, John Stojcevski and Jordan Daniel kept the Skyhawk offense away from any serious threats on Reyes.

Adelphi returns to the road this Tuesday with a 4:00 pm tilt in Rindge, N.H. to face Franklin Pierce.
