Bowling Kicks Off Play on Day 1 of FDU New Jersey Jamboree

New Brunswick, N.J. -- The Adelphi University bowling team picked up three wins in five matches played on the first of three days of play from the New Jersey Jamboree, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University this weekend, on Friday.

After falling to Bethune-Cookman University by just 29 pins (924-895) in the first match of the day and falling to a familiar foe in the University of Maryland - Eastern Shore in the second match, the Panthers rallied off three straight victories to end the day on a positive note. Laura Zaugg paced the Panthers in game three against Howard University, rolling a 245 to lead the squad to a 932-868 victory.

In the ensuing two matches against Saint Peter's (967-753) and Caldwell (896-853), the Panthers got strong performances from Zaugg, Rebecca Gotterbarn and Leanne Reed to come away with two wins. Gotterbarn posted a game-high score for the Panthers against Saint Peter's (223), while Zaugg added a 214 to pace the win. In the final match of the day, Reed tallied a 213 against Caldwell while Gotterbarn also cracked the 200 plateau at 211.

Two of the three Panthers to compete in all five matches on the afternoon currently sit in the top 50 of the individual field. Gotterbarn rolled over 200 in four of the five matches on the afternoon, putting her in 11th place with a 209 average overall, while Zaugg sits 49th with a 190.2 average. Jackie Castelli also competed in all five matches for the Panthers on the afternoon, rolling an average of 170.2 to sit in 76th place in the field of 179 bowlers.

The Panthers continue play in the FDU New Jersey Jamboree over the weekend, with play taking place on both Saturday and Sunday.
