Men's Soccer Ends Regular Season With 3-0 Win Against Saint Rose On Senior Night

Garden City, N.Y. – A 3-0 regular season-finale win for the Adelphi University men's soccer was the perfect gift to tonight's seniors as the Panthers upended visiting Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Panthers got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first 10 minutes with a play falling their way inside the offensive box. With a few challenges, a loose ball ended up at the feet of Caelan Hueber six feet out that resulted in a left foot strike to the back of the net. Almost exactly 10 minutes later, a foul in the box on Saint Rose allowed Alejandro Penzini to step up and convert a penalty kick to give the Brown and Gold a 2-0 edge.

With the lead on the scoreboard, Adelphi also controlled a 9-1 shot margin to go with one corner kick. Panther goalkeeper Spenser Powell made the lone save of the half for either team.

Adelphi looked to continue the pressure in the early stages of the second half as Hueber created on the left side in the 53rd minute. With the creation, Hueber was able to find Federico De Oliveira in front of the net with the midfielder finishing the opportunity and give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

The Panthers kept the pressure forward, finishing the evening with a 19-2 shot advantage as well as a 2-1 corner kick margin. The attack forced Colan Balkwell to make four saves for the Golden Knights while Powell earned the victory behind his one first half save.

Prior to the start of tonight's contest, the Adelphi Athletic Department honored five seniors playing in their final home regular season game. The senior class consists of Shane McLaughlin, Louis Sepulveda, Will Rezin, William Schondfeldt, and Christian Molano.

Both teams await the seeding of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship that will begin Tuesday with quarterfinal action.
