Garden City, N.Y. – A late strike in the first half held up for the Adelphi University women's soccer team in a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference win against visiting Bentley earlier today.
Both teams started the games with their own spurts as
Anne Marie Ulliac was forced to make two saves, one pushed over the post and another deflected to her diving right, for the Panthers. Changing the field back in their favor, the Panthers finally found the opening tally of the contest.
Playing the ball inside the left corner of the box,
Laura Gomez managed to get a deflected pass into the middle for
Kelsey Malles. With that, Malles finished over the top of Bentley goalie Deirdre Macrorie to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead in the 40 minute.
The Brown and Gold finished the period with a 9-5 shot advantage while Bentley controlled a 4-2 corner kick margin. Both Ulliac and Macrorie finished with two saves each.
The second half developed into a struggle for possession for both teams as the two squads split six shots taken evenly. Ulliac was forced to make two more saves to finish her day with four to preserve the shutout.
Adelphi's next two contests will come on the road starting with Tuesday's visit to Southern Connecticut State. Kickoff is set for 6:00 pm in New Haven.
