Worcester, Mass. - A late goal in regulation helped the 12th ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team extend its winning streak to eight games with a 2-1 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption earlier tonight.

Laura Gomez looked to continue her recent play by helping to give Adelphi the early lead. In the eighth minute, the junior forward collected on the left side and found an open shot about 10 yards out that found its way to the right side of the net for the 1-0 advantage.
The Greyhounds switched their pressure on the other half of the field, ultimately resulting in the equalizer during the 29th minute. Kallie Villemaire put the finishing touches on a Nikki Callini pass to pull Assumption even as the high shot from inside the box found its way into the bottom left corner.
Both goalkeepers,
Anne Marie Ulliac for the Brown and Gold and Emily Kuzmas for the host, were forced to make two saves in the opening half. Each team also created five shots while Assumption manufactured the lone corner kick in the period.
With the score knotted up at 1-1, each team had visions of overtime before the Panthers broke through in the 85th minute.
Morgan Santoro sent a through ball from the left side of the Adelphi end to the right that found
Samantha Lanza finishing to give Adelphi the late 2-1 lead.
The slight 8-6 shot advantage in the second period helped the Brown and Gold finish the night with a 13-11 margin while both teams came up two corner kicks. Each goalie made four saves in the final 45 minutes to finish with six a piece.
The Panthers return to Motamed Field on Saturday for a 3:00 pm start against Southern New Hampshire for the final regular season game of the year. Prior to the start of the match, Adelphi will honor its graduating seniors with a brief ceremony.
