Women's Soccer Upends Southern New Hampshire 3-0 On Senior Day

Garden City, N.Y. – Three second half goals allowed the Adelphi University women's soccer team celebrate Senior Day with a 3-0 victory against Northeast-10 Conference Southern New Hampshire University earlier today in the 2015 regular season finale.

Adelphi began to control the possession towards the later stages of the first half after both teams played throughout the midfield. The Panthers finished the half with a 12-1 shot advantage to make Paige Salmon, sister of Taylor Salmon, stop four shots on target. Additionally, the Brown and Gold created five corners kicks compared to two for the Penmen, who made Anne Marie Ulliac make one save on their lone attempt of the half.

The pressure kept the momentum in favor of Adelphi to result in the first strike of the game in the 61st minute. Meaghan Simmons created space out on the right flank and sent in a ball that took one hop and found the swinging foot of Laura Gomez inside the box for the 1-0 lead.

The Brown and Gold added two insurance goals in the final 15 minutes to help seal the victory. In the 76th minute, a cross from the left end line by Olivia Czavar took one hope and found Kelsey Simpson who one-timed in her second goal of the season. After just being inserted into the contest, Christina Dutcher crossed a ball in from the right flank that found a streaking Nicole Forte at the goal line finalize the 3-0 win.

Adelphi finished the game with a 27-3 advantage in the shot column while also producing nine corner kicks. Salmon finished with eight saves for the Penmen while Ulliac made three stops for the Panthers.

Prior to today's match, the Adelphi Athletic Department honored the graduating seniors from the team. The class consisted of 10 seniors, Melissa Rubin, Melissa Duarte, Taylor Groth, Taylor Salmon, Samantha Lanza, Christina Dutcher, Kelsey Malles, Bianca Lastra, Olivia Czavar, and Amanda Reverberi.

Both teams now await seeding for the upcoming NE-10 Championship which will begin on Tuesday with the quarterfinal round.
