Manchester, N.H. – An overtime goal helped lift the Adelphi University men's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory at Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm earlier today.
Caelan Hueber found a streaking
Toni Soler from the right flank as Soler finished in the 93rd minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 conference road victory. The strike marked Soler's second goal and game-winner on the
season.
Adelphi had chances throughout the contest, creating a 18-3 shot margin on top of a 7-1 margin in corner kicks. However, Hawk goalkeeper Stephen McLeod made six stops in his 94 minutes of action that included four in the second period.
Sergio Reyes was forced to make just one stop for the Brown and Gold in the second half.
A penatly kick in the 88th minute nearly lifted Adelphi to victory, however,
Alejandro Penzini's attempt hit the crossbar while Hueber's follow up shot was blocked. Soler's game-winner was the lone shot of the overtime session, a minute after a corner kick from
Federico De Oliveira.
The Panthers return home on Tuesday for the first of two straight matches to end the regular season. The Brown and Gold host American International for a 7:00 pm kickoff on Motamed Field.
